Recipe for Success: Grandma’s Apple Cake – Start with the End Goal
This apple cake was a staple in my house growing up. My mother learned most of her cooking from my paternal grandmother, Mary Zarvis. She was Lithuanian and Ukrainian. This heritage combined with my mother’s Italian heritage made for some terrific foods growing up. This apple cake is simple to make, and it disappears quickly.
Much like baking, sales can be a mathematical game. Determine how many new sales you need for the month, and work your way backward to figure out how many connections and tours you need. When was the last time you did some backwards math to develop appointment goals for yourself?
Here’s an example of how you can use a formula to help you develop sales goals for the month:
# of move-ins needed: 4
# of deposits needed: 6 (we know not 100% of our deposits result in a move-in)
% of Appointments that result in a sale: 40%
Now it’s time for some 8th grade algebra…
# of appointments needed to result in reaching deposit:
X * .40 = 6
6/.40 = 15
This means in this example, you’d need 15 appointments to reach your goal amount of deposits. If you need to get 15 appointments during the month to achieve your 6 deposits, what is your strategy?
