Social Media For Senior Living Communities: Use Social Media to Tell a Story

Next up in our series of tips for how to create a social media strategy that will yield results for your senior living community is using social media to tell a story. Your feed should tell a story that answers this question: What is it like to live here?

Here are some tips on how to do this:

  • Be intentional with photography.

Photos should be clear, bright, and thoughtfully staged. Ask residents to stand and look toward the camera. Avoid blurry, dimly lit snapshots or cluttered backgrounds. It’s not enough to quickly snap a candid on your phone and hope everyone looks happy and is well-lit.

  • Favor video content when possible.

Videos are proven to drive higher engagement on platforms like Facebook and Instagram. A 30-second clip of residents dancing during a music program or preparing for a holiday dinner does far more than a static image. Videos help you tell your story more clearly and make for great examples of the life you’re trying to advertise.

  • Feature diverse residents and staff.

Your future residents want to see people they can relate to – people with whom they can imagine forming friendships. Current residents aren’t the only people in this category. At a CCRC, staff members become like family to many residents. Let your prospective residents see the full extent of the family they may find in your community.

  • Create polls and interactive posts.

Questions like “What was your first concert?” or “Which summer treat wins: popsicles or ice cream?” encourage your audience to interact, share, and come back for more. These platforms were created for people to interact with one another – “social” is literally in the name! Bring back these elements that encourage interaction to make your social media page social again.

If you can show people what it’s like to live in your community and show them why they’d love moving in there, you’ll have people touring and moving in all the time!
