Social Media for Senior Living Communities: Be the Expert — Share Educational Content

Finally, our last tip for optimizing social media for your senior living community is not to let educational content fall to the wayside. Social media should reflect more than lifestyle. It should position your community as a trusted senior living resource

Consider posting content like:

  • Quick videos on how to tour a senior living community

  • Tips on downsizing or moving

  • Myth-busting posts about what senior living is (and isn’t)

  • Resident testimonials that speak to why they made the move

When you blend lifestyle, education, and engagement, your social media page becomes more than just a feed; it becomes a storyboard for what life could look like in your community.

We’ve been working with Harbor’s Edge, a luxury senior living community in Norfolk, VA, to optimize their social content and create a baseline strategy that works for them. Previously, they were posting very sporadically or not at all. Now, they post consistently with a healthy mix of resident lifestyle and event posts, informational blogs, and PR topics that drive engagement.

We created a social media posting calendar system for them and are perfecting it to serve as an all-encompassing social resource for all team members. In addition to the event or content and post date, columns notate who is responsible for capturing or creating the content and who is responsible for sending it to the team by the specified date.

Resources like this help large teams stay organized and accountable. If you think you have good content but are struggling to organize it, consider a calendar like this one to make sure everyone is on the same page.

One look at the upcoming posts tells you what types of consent you’re posting, and if the balance between lifestyle and information is a good one. Remember, you’re speaking to prospective residents who will have questions about the more technical side of move-in and what their life will be like in your community. Sharing images of your residents having fun is important, but so is answering those questions!

Stay tuned for our next – and final – blog post about social media for your senior living community, focusing on expanding to other channels outside of Meta!
